On 7 and 8 May 2009, the Executive Council meeting in Bamako, Mali, will select one candidate to the post of Secretary-General for the period 2010-2013, from the four candidatures received.


A new Secretary-General for UNWTO
Madrid, Spain, 7 April 2009

On 7 and 8 May 2009, the Executive Council meeting in Bamako, Mali, will select one candidate to the post of Secretary-General for the period 2010-2013, from the four candidatures received.


The four candidates are:

1.    Arab Hoballah, Lebanon
2.    Khalid Malik, Pakistan
3.    Oh Jee-chul, Republic of Korea
4.    Taleb Rifai, Jordan

The recommendation from the Executive Council of one candidate has to be ratified by the General Assembly (Astana, Kazakhstan, 2-9 October 2009).

After Mr. Francesco Frangialli’s decision to leave his position prior to the expiration of his third term, Mr. Taleb Rifai took office ad interim from 1 March 2009 until the end of the scheduled term of office, 31 December 2009.
